WTTR: "20,000 Species of Bees" at MIT

  • MIT Bartos Theatre 20 Ames Street Cambridge, MA, 02142 United States (map)

Directed by Estibaliz Urresola Solaguren, Spanish, 2 hour and 8 minutes, Spain, 2023

Join us in screening 20,000 Species of Bees as part of the annual Women Take The Reel Film Festival.

In this sun-soaked, sublimely sensitive debut, writer/director Estibaliz Urresola Solaguren sets her lens on an eight-year-old’s identity crisis over one uncertain summer vacation. Ane, in the midst of separating from her husband, takes her children to her hometown, a sleepy village on the Spanish side of Basque Country, to stay with her mother. There, our young heroine, nicknamed Coco (at least for the moment), explores her gender identity under the cautious, yet loving gaze of three generations of women in her family, who concurrently also reflect on their own place in the world.

The screening will take place on March 8, 2024 at 6:00 PM. It is followed by a Q&A discussion with members from BAGLY (a youth-led, adult-supported organization committed to social justice, and creating, sustaining, and advocating for programs, policies, and services for the LGBTQ+ youth community). Light refreshments will be served.

This event is free and open to the public. You must register to attend.
